Mozilla, on June 17, released Firefox 3. Mozilla had created much hype with it’s release by ‘urging’ users to download it on the Download day- i.e. June 17, to create a new world record, the move which has been widely criticised by many. Why do they want to ‘force’ us to download it? Users will download it without any request if it’s worth downloading. Has Opera Software insisted it’s users to download Opera 9.5? Well, anyway now let’s move on to the browser & it’s new features.

What’s new:
- New UI- Firefox 3 now sports new User Interface (UI) which is platform native. Whether you use Windows XP/ Windows Vista/ Mac/ Linux you get the native look & feel which feels like home.
-
Safer- The new Firefox now has Instant Website ID feature which tells you if the website can be trusted or not. All you need to do is click on the website icon known as favicon on the address bar. Eg. Techies Realm has TR favicon which is showed next to the site address on the address bar. This version also has malware protection. You’ll receive a warning if you visit a attack website.
-
New address bar- Firefox 3 sports a new Smart Location Bar which shows you the websites you visited by it’s content. If you’ve forgotten the website address but vaguely remember it’s content, just type the content & Firefox displays suggestions.
-
Improved performance- Firefox 3, as Mozilla claims, keeps memory usage under control, uses less system memory, processes JavaScript faster, loads images faster & has new graphics engine.
-
Better Standard Support- Firefox 3 claims to be more Web standards friendly, supports new advanced web technologies & colour profiles support for photographers.

Who is forcing you to download? No one can! You mistook the whole thing.

Hi Manish! Thanks for your comments
Well, I am not against FF or it’s community. I just didn’t like the way they ‘requested’.
As far as FF is concerned it WAS a nice product & I myself ditched IE when FF was released then it became buggy & heavy on system resources and I ditched FF for Opera 9 & IE 7. IE 8, hopefully, will be a mature product.
I’ll post a new post about FF 3 in a day or two. Stay tuned.
By Rajbir Singh on June 18th, 2008 at 4:47 amThe only reason why I use Firefox is ‘coz it is available on all 3 platforms I use. Opera too is available but, you see Opera has this policy of – If we can’t beat you, we will sue you. I hate this and don’t use Opera.
The new address bar makes no difference to me, I kinda haven’t found anything great in it. but, the native theme for all platforms, is seriously very nice.
Ubuntu, OS X, Vista, firefox looks like a native browser on all of them, which is good.
By Manan on June 18th, 2008 at 5:26 amAfter reading your informative post and the following reviews about it, I would surely like to use it.
By Amritbir Kaur on June 19th, 2008 at 10:00 amTruely the best thing is the native theming. This was the best thing in FF3 (atleast the best apart from general security features).
Opera is also nice, but I faced some problems with tabs, so couldnt continue using it.
The best thing in Firefox is that you dont have to worry of features, additional features can be provided by addons.
